To win lane as Pudge pos five, you win it for your carry. In the safe lane, a hard support keeps the carry alive, controls where the creep wave sits, and punishes the enemy offlaner when they overreach. Kills are a bonus. A carry who reaches their core items on time is the real win.

ADVICE

This guide is gameplay advice, not statistics. Current ability values are on Pudge abilities; match results are on Pudge matchups.

What does a hard support Pudge do in the safe lane?

The hard support, position five (pos five), shares the safe lane with the team's carry. That carry needs last hits more than anyone else on the team. Your duty is to make those last hits easy and safe.

This guide covers only that lane duty. For hooks, wards and fights as any support, read the broader Pudge support tips. For general habits that apply in every lane, see Pudge laning tips.

Where should you stand to protect your carry?

Pick a spot between your carry and the enemy offlaner. The offlaner has to walk past you to reach your core. When they step forward, they step into hook range.

Stay out of sight when you can. A Pudge hidden in the trees beside the lane is a threat the enemy must guess about. A Pudge standing in the open is just a target.

Watch the enemy support too. If they swap lanes or vanish, warn your carry. A short warning saves more gold than a risky hook.

How do pulls help Pudge win the lane?

Pulling is the hard support's most useful lane tool. You draw a neutral camp into your own creep wave, and the two groups fight. The lane then moves back toward your tower.

A wave near your tower is good for your carry. The enemy offlaner has to walk deep to harass, far from their own tower and close to yours. That is where a hook does the most damage.

Pulls also cost the enemy creeps. The wave they would have met is busy with the camp, so the offlaner loses farm and experience. Stacking a camp when you have a free moment gives your carry extra gold later.

When you leave to pull, your carry is briefly alone. Tell them first. If the enemy pair looks aggressive, skip the pull and stay close.

When should a pos five Pudge throw Meat Hook?

Meat Hook pulls the first unit on its line back to you. In this lane, the cleanest chance is an offlaner who walks past the creeps to hit your carry. They are already exposed, and your carry is right there to follow up.

Hook only when your carry can join the fight. A hooked enemy that nobody hits is a wasted cooldown and a chunk of mana. Agree on a plan before the lane even starts.

Remember that Meat Hook also pulls allies. If your carry overextends and gets caught, a hook can drag them back to safety. In a safe lane, this rescue is often more valuable than a kill.

How do you share the lane's gold and experience?

Leave every creep your carry can reach. Take only last hits they cannot get, such as when they are away or a creep is about to die out of reach. Denying enemy creeps is fine when it does not cost your carry a last hit.

Pudge needs few items to be useful early. That makes him a good fit for a role with little farm. Your gold can come from bounty runes, kills and assists instead.

If your carry is struggling, use Rot carefully. It hurts and slows enemies around you, but it also hurts you. A short burst can push an offlaner off your carry. Leaving it on too long only weakens you.

When should the hard support leave the lane?

Leaving too early is the most common mistake in this role. Your carry is often most fragile in the opening minutes. Stay until they can hold the lane alone.

Good signs that you can leave include a carry with healthy items, an enemy offlaner who has gone back to base, or a lane wave that sits close to your tower. Bad signs include a carry with low health or no escape, or an enemy pair still at full strength.

Once you have Dismember, your kill threat in other lanes grows a lot. That is a natural moment to look at the map. Our guide on when Pudge should rotate explains how to choose a target.

What should a pos five Pudge buy?

Hard support Pudge spends early gold on team items first, such as wards, and keeps the rest for items that help him survive and act. Which ones depend on the game. The Pudge build page shows what players actually buy, with patch and sample size, and the items page breaks it down by phase.

  • Hook the offlaner only when your carry can join the fight.
  • Keep a hook ready to rescue a carry who gets caught.
  • Leave last hits to your carry unless they cannot reach them.
