How to Get a Rampage as Pudge

A Rampage is a chain of five enemy hero kills by one player, with only a short gap between each kill. Pudge can get one, but it is rare. It takes a fight where the enemy is low, grouped and unable to escape, plus a lot of luck. Chasing it on purpose can cost your team the game.

ADVICE

This guide is gameplay advice, not statistics. Current ability values are on Pudge abilities; match results are on Pudge matchups.

What counts as a Rampage?

You get a Rampage when you kill five enemy heroes in a row, with each kill coming soon after the last. If too much time passes between two kills, the chain ends. The game announces each step of the streak, from a double kill up to the Rampage.

You must land the last hit on each hero. Teammates can help deal damage, but if an ally gets the kill, it does not count for your chain. Killing creeps or buildings does not add to it.

Sources do not fully agree on some details, such as how deaths affect the chain. We leave those out. The core rule is clear: five hero kills, by you, close together.

Why is a Rampage hard for Pudge?

Pudge does a lot of damage to one target at a time. Meat Hook grabs a single unit. Dismember holds one hero. That is great for picking off a target, but slow for killing a whole team.

Rot hits everyone near you, but its damage is spread out over time. It helps finish low enemies, not wipe out a healthy team on its own.

Pudge is also often a support or a roamer. He may not have the items or levels to kill five heroes fast. A carry hero with strong area damage usually has a better shot.

Which fights give Pudge a chance?

The best chance comes when the enemy team is already hurt. If your team wins a big fight and the enemies are low and running, Pudge can pick them off one by one.

Some moments to look for:

  • A teamfight where your allies deal the damage and enemies flee in a group.
  • Enemies coming back one at a time after a lost fight, low on health.
  • A late game push where the enemy team is out of escape spells.
  • Enemies trapped in a narrow space with your Rot slowing them down.

Your hook is a strong way to catch the last runner. If one hero is escaping with low health, a hook can pull him back for the final kill. Hook damage is Pure, so it ignores armor.

Flesh Heap grows as enemy heroes die near you. A big fight with many kills makes you stronger even if you do not get the Rampage.

Why can chasing a Rampage lose games?

When you chase kills for a Rampage, you stop thinking about the game. You may chase a hero into fog, deep into their base, or past their towers. That is how fights turn around.

A common case is a won fight where the team should take a tower or Roshan. Instead, one player runs off after the last enemy. The enemies buy back or respawn. Now your team has lost the chance to push, and the chaser may die alone.

Taking kills from your allies can also hurt. If your carry is about to kill a hero, let him. His gold and levels matter more for the late game than your streak does.

A Rampage is fun, and the announcer is a great moment. But it does not win the game. Towers and the Ancient do.

How should you think about kills as Pudge?

Focus on fights your team can win. Use your hook to start fights or save allies. Use Dismember on the target that matters most.

If a Rampage happens, enjoy it. If it does not, the fight may still be a big win. The teamfight tips guide shows how to pick your role in a fight, and the late game guide covers how to close games out.

FAQ

Can Pudge get a Rampage?

Yes, any hero can. It is rare for Pudge, because most of his damage hits one target at a time.

Do assists count toward a Rampage?

No. You must land the killing blow on each of the five heroes.

Is it worth chasing a Rampage?

Usually not, if it means leaving your team or skipping a push. A won fight is worth more when you turn it into towers.

Do creep kills count toward a Rampage?

No. Only enemy hero kills count toward the chain.

Checklist

  • Look for Rampage chances only after your team wins a fight.
  • Hook the last low runner when it is safe.
  • Let your carry take kills he needs.
  • Do not chase into fog or past enemy towers.
  • Turn a won fight into towers or Roshan.
  • Enjoy a Rampage, but play for the win.
