Pudge Hooks Near Towers
Updated: (today) · 4 min read · Facts checked Oct 5, 2026 on patch 7.41
Towers change how a hook plays out. Pulling an enemy under your own tower can turn a close fight into an easy kill. Hooking an enemy who stands under their tower can get Pudge killed instead. The key facts are simple: spells do not draw tower aggro, but attacking an enemy hero near their tower does. This guide explains how to use that.
ADVICE
Do spells make a tower attack Pudge?
No. Casting spells on an enemy hero does not make their tower switch its attack to you. That includes
Meat Hook,
Rot and
Dismember.
What does pull tower aggro is attacking an enemy hero near their tower. If Pudge right-clicks an enemy under their tower, the tower turns on Pudge. This is the rule to keep in mind every time you fight near a tower.
Of course, a tower still attacks enemies who stand in its range when it has nothing better to hit. Spells only avoid the special switch. If no creeps are nearby, Pudge standing under an enemy tower will take hits anyway.
How do you pull an enemy under your own tower?
This is the friendly version of a tower hook. You stand close to your tower, and you hook an enemy who walked too far forward. The hook drags them back to you, which puts them near your tower.
From there, your tower can join the fight. We have not confirmed the exact way a tower picks targets in every case. In practice, it often helps if the enemy attacks you or an ally, because a tower attacks heroes who attack allied heroes near it. If creeps are around, the tower may keep hitting them first.
Some tips for this setup:
- Stand where your tower covers the space around you.
- Keep the line clear of creeps so the hook reaches the enemy.
- Aim for heroes who chase too far, such as a carry going for a last hit.
- Turn on Rot after the pull to slow them while they try to walk away.
The laning tips guide covers how to keep enemies honest in lane. A good tower hook is one of the best ways to do that.
Why is hooking under the enemy tower risky?
When the enemy stands under their own tower, the hook brings them to wherever Pudge is. If Pudge is outside the tower's range, that is fine. If Pudge is inside it, the fight happens under their tower.
The tower does not switch to you for the hook itself. But if you right-click the enemy to finish them, it will. And if your creeps are gone, the tower may target you anyway. Enemy heroes nearby can also join in.
There is also the problem of the walk. Even a good pull leaves Pudge needing to win the fight and then walk away. Pudge is slow, and a tower plus a few enemies can end his life fast.
How can you hook near the enemy tower more safely?
Stay outside the tower's range when you throw. The hook pulls the enemy out to you, so they lose the tower's help. This is the cleanest version of a tower dive.
If you must go in, bring help. A teammate can take tower hits while you finish the kill with spells. Use Dismember and Rot rather than right-clicks, so you do not pull extra aggro onto yourself.
Meat Shield can block damage while you finish the channel, because it does not break Dismember.
Check the tower's health and how many enemies are nearby before a dive. If the dive looks close, skip it.
What about baiting near towers?
Some enemies stay under their tower for safety. You can try to draw them out by looking weak or by standing in an odd spot. The bait under tower guide covers this idea. Remember that baiting means real risk, so only do it when you can get away if it goes wrong.
FAQ
Does Meat Hook draw tower aggro?
No. Spells do not make a tower switch its target to you. Right-clicking an enemy hero near their tower does.
Should I hook an enemy under their tower?
Only if you stand outside the tower's range or your team is ready to dive. Otherwise the fight happens under their tower and you are likely to die.
Will my tower attack an enemy I pull under it?
It may. A tower attacks heroes who attack allied heroes near it. If creeps are around, it may keep hitting them first.
