How to Use Pudge Dismember
Updated: (today) · 3 min read · Facts checked Oct 4, 2026 on patch 7.41
To use Pudge
Dismember well, cast it on a target that cannot be saved or rescued, from a spot where enemies cannot easily interrupt you. It is a channeled ultimate, so stuns and silences on Pudge end it early. Pair it with a landed hook, keep your team close, and be ready to cancel when the fight turns.
ADVICE
How does Dismember work?
Dismember is Pudge's ultimate. You cast it on a single enemy unit, and Pudge then channels it. While he channels, the target is held in place and takes Magical damage.
It pierces spell immunity. You can cast it on an enemy who has Black King Bar active. The BKB guide covers how this fits with Pudge's other abilities.
Only strong dispels can remove it from the target. Weaker dispels that clear many other effects will not free them. The exact damage, channel time and cooldown change with patches and level, so check Pudge ability values for the current numbers.
What is the classic Dismember combo?
The best known combo starts with
Meat Hook. The hook drags the target next to Pudge. You then cast Dismember right away, before they can react or walk off.
Many players also turn on
Rot during the channel. The target is already beside you, so Rot adds damage. It also slows any enemy who runs in to help.
A Blink Dagger gives you another way to start. You blink next to the target and cast Dismember at once. This works well when there is no clear hook line.
Who should you Dismember?
Pick a target your team can actually kill. Dismember holds one hero, but the real value often comes from your allies hitting that hero while it cannot move.
Fragile heroes are usually good targets, because the hold gives your team time to finish them. Heroes with escape spells are good targets too, since the hold stops them from using their mobility.
Avoid targets that the enemy can easily rescue. If the target's team has a strong dispel nearby, the hold may end early. Learn which enemy heroes and items can strong dispel before the game starts.
How do you avoid getting interrupted?
Dismember is a channel, and stuns, silences and similar disables on Pudge end it. Before you cast, look at which enemies are close and which of them can disable you.
Stand so that your own body or your team blocks the enemy path to you. If you just hooked someone out of a group, their allies may need to walk toward you. That walk gives your team time to engage them.
Black King Bar on Pudge is one answer to interrupts. Spell immunity blocks many of the disables that would stop the channel. It does not block all of them, so still watch for abilities that pierce spell immunity.
When should you cancel Dismember?
You can stop a channel at any time by giving Pudge another order. Use this when the fight changes. If several enemies appear and your team is not near, it is often better to cancel and walk away than to die mid-channel.
React fast when the target gets freed. If an enemy strong dispel removes the hold, stop and reposition right away instead of standing in place.
Do not cancel by accident. A stray right click ends the channel. Many players hold still and only press keys they mean to press while channeling.
How does Dismember fit into teamfights?
In a teamfight, think about which single hero changes the fight most. A carry about to deal heavy damage or a support about to cast a big spell are common picks.
Dismember also works as a save. If an enemy is diving your ally, holding that enemy can stop the dive. The teamfight guide covers positioning for these moments.
