Pudge's innate ability is Flesh Heap. It gives him permanent bonus Strength each time an enemy hero dies near him or falls to his own kill. There is no facet choice to make any more: facets were removed from the game in the current major patch, so Flesh Heap is the part of Pudge you get in every game.

ADVICE

This guide is gameplay advice, not statistics. Current ability values are on Pudge abilities; match results are on Pudge matchups.

Does Pudge still have facets?

No. Facets were removed from the game in a recent major patch. Before that, Pudge picked one of a few facets before the match, and each one changed a single ability.

With facets gone, every Pudge starts the same way. The innate ability is the one passive bonus he always has. If you read an older guide that tells you which facet to pick, that part no longer applies.

What does the Flesh Heap innate do?

Flesh Heap is a passive. You do not cast it and it uses no mana. Each time it gains a stack, Pudge gets a little more Strength, and that bonus stays for the rest of the game.

A stack comes from an enemy hero dying. If the enemy dies close to Pudge, he gets the stack no matter who made the kill. If the enemy dies farther away, Pudge needs to get the kill himself.

The exact Strength per stack and the radius change with patches. Check Pudge abilities for the current values.

Why does extra Strength matter for Pudge?

Strength gives every hero more health and health regeneration. For Pudge, that means he lasts longer in fights and recovers faster between them.

Strength also feeds his ultimate. Dismember deals extra damage based on Pudge's Strength, and it heals him for the damage it deals. So each stack makes his hold a little more deadly and a little more healing.

That is why a Pudge with many stacks feels so different from one with few. The bonus grows quietly, kill by kill.

How do you get more Flesh Heap stacks?

Be near fights. Since nearby deaths count even when an ally makes the kill, standing close to a fight earns stacks without last hitting. A Pudge who arrives late often misses the stack.

Help your team make kills. A landed Meat Hook that leads to a kill is the most direct way to stack. The rotation guide covers when to leave lane and join fights.

Stay alive. Stacks do not drop when you die, but a dead Pudge cannot stand near the next fight. Smart use of Meat Shield and good positioning keep you in place to collect them.

Did Flesh Heap change in the current patch?

Yes. It used to grow stronger as you put points into Dismember. In the current patch it no longer levels with Dismember. It now gives the same Strength per stack for the whole game.

This means you do not need to rush your ultimate to make Flesh Heap better. You still want Dismember for its own sake, but the passive no longer depends on it.

Does Flesh Heap work with talents?

One late talent boosts both Flesh Heap and Meat Shield. The more stacks you have, the more that talent is worth. If you have few stacks, the other talent at that tier may help more. The talents guide explains how to weigh that choice.

The current talent tree, read from game data, is on the Pudge build page.

How should Flesh Heap change the way you play?

Think of every fight as a chance to grow. Even a fight you do not start can give you a stack if you are close by. Roaming Pudges who join many fights tend to collect more stacks than ones who stay in one lane.

Do not chase stacks into bad fights, though. One death costs more than one stack is worth in most games. Join fights your team can win, and stay close enough to share in the kills.

Later in the game, a high stack count makes Pudge a real frontline. Use that health to soak damage for your team and to stand near the enemy while you look for a hook. The teamfight guide covers where to stand.

Checklist

  • Know that facets are gone; Flesh Heap is Pudge's only innate bonus.
  • Stand close to fights so nearby enemy deaths give you stacks.
  • Turn hooks into kills to stack from farther away.
  • Stay alive to keep collecting stacks in later fights.
  • Remember that more Strength makes Dismember deal more damage and heal more.
  • Weigh the last talent tier against your current stack count.
