Does Pudge's Hook Give Vision?
Updated: (today) · 4 min read · Facts checked Oct 5, 2026 on patch 7.41
Yes, Pudge's hook gives vision. As
Meat Hook flies, it reveals a small area around itself for a short time. That means every hook, even a miss, can show you something in the fog. Smart Pudge players use this as a cheap way to look where they cannot see.
ADVICE
The vision radius and how long it lasts are game values. Check them on the Pudge abilities page. This guide covers how to use that vision, not the numbers.
What vision does Meat Hook give?
The hook carries a small circle of sight as it travels. Anything that enters that circle while the hook is flying becomes visible to you and your team. The sight lasts for a short time, then fades.
The vision moves with the hook along its path. So a hook thrown into fog lights up a thin strip of the map along its path.
Keep in mind what this vision is. It is normal sight, the same kind a hero has. It shows units in that area while it lasts. It is a quick glance, not a ward.
How can you use hook vision to scout fog?
A hook thrown into fog does two jobs at once. It may catch a hero, and it shows you what is there. Even a miss can tell you a lot.
Here are some ways players use it:
- Check a path before you walk. A hook down a dark jungle path can show if enemies are waiting.
- Find a hero who just broke vision. A hook along their likely path may catch them or at least show where they went.
- Look into trees. If you think an enemy is hiding, a hook through the tree line can reveal them, since the hook flies through trees.
- Confirm a threat. Before your team moves, a hook can show whether an enemy hero is nearby.
This is advice, not a free tool. Every scouting hook spends mana and goes on cooldown. If the enemy shows up a moment later, you may not have the hook when you need it. Only scout this way when the hook is not needed for a fight soon.
Can you check Roshan or a jungle path with the hook?
You can throw a hook toward any spot within range, including toward Roshan's area or into the jungle. The vision may show you who is there. That can tell your team whether the enemy is taking Roshan or setting up an ambush.
Treat this as a quick peek with a cost. If the enemy team is really there, you have just used your best spell and shown them where you are. A Pudge without a hook is far less scary in a fight.
A better habit is to use hook vision when you would throw the hook anyway. For example, throw at a hero you suspect is walking a jungle path. If you hit, great. If you miss, you still saw the path.
What does the hook reveal to the enemy?
Hook vision works for you, but the hook itself is visible to the enemy too. A hook flying out of the fog shows them roughly where it came from. A miss tells the enemy that Pudge is nearby.
Think about this before you scout. If you are hiding for a gank, a scouting hook may ruin the surprise. The fog hooks guide covers when to stay hidden and when to throw.
How does hook vision help in fights?
In a chaotic fight, enemies often run into fog to escape. A hook thrown after them can light up where they went, even if it does not catch them. Your team may then see a low hero to chase.
It can also spot a hero waiting to join the fight from the side. A quick look at the edge of the fight may reveal a support or carry about to jump in.
FAQ
Does Pudge's hook give vision?
Yes. The hook reveals a small area around itself while it flies. The exact radius and duration are on the abilities page.
Can the hook show invisible enemies?
The hook gives normal vision, which does not reveal invisible units. It can still catch an invisible unit that is on its line.
Is scouting with the hook a good idea?
Sometimes. It is useful when the hook is not needed for a fight soon. It costs mana and cooldown, and it shows the enemy you are nearby.
Does the vision last after the hook returns?
Only for a short time. Check the current duration on the abilities page.
