How Pudge Pressures the Enemy Carry

An enemy carry needs time and space to farm. Pudge can take both away. By keeping a constant threat on the carry, you force them to farm slower, in worse spots, and with one eye always on the trees. That pressure can matter as much as a kill.

ADVICE

This guide is gameplay advice, not statistics. Current ability values are on Pudge abilities; match results are on Pudge matchups.

Why should Pudge pressure the enemy carry?

The carry is the hero who grows strongest with gold and time. If they farm in peace, they will often win the late game for their team. Slowing them down helps your whole team.

Pudge is good at this because his hook threat reaches far. A carry farming near the trees has to worry about being pulled. Even when you are not there, the chance that you might be changes how they play.

You do not need to kill the carry every time. Making them farm less is often enough. Every wave they skip or camp they leave is gold they do not get.

How do you create a constant threat?

Show up often enough that the carry starts to fear you. Appear near their lane, then vanish into the fog. Come back later from a different side. The carry never knows when you will strike.

Mix real attacks with threats. Sometimes throw a hook. Sometimes just let them see you and then leave. Over time, the carry spends more effort watching for you than farming.

A few habits help build that threat:

  • Check the minimap to see where the carry is farming.
  • Rotate to their lane or jungle when you have time.
  • Leave before they can trap you or call for help.
  • Return from a new angle so they cannot predict you.

The hook threat guide covers how the idea of a hook can be as strong as the hook itself.

How do you force the carry to farm worse spots?

When a carry fears you, they move to safer ground. They may farm closer to their tower or stay in the open where they can see you coming. Both are good for your team.

Farming near their tower slows them down. They give up waves further out and leave more of the map to you. Your team can push lanes and take ground while the carry hides.

Staying in the open also helps. A carry who avoids the trees has fewer camps to farm. Their gold income drops even if they do not die.

Keep the pressure steady. If you stop showing up, the carry relaxes and goes back to their best spots.

How do you coordinate with your team?

Pressure is stronger with help. If your team knows you are hunting the carry, they can join or take space elsewhere.

Tell your allies when you plan to go for the carry. A short ping on the carry and a call like "going for their carry" is enough. If an ally can come too, the chance of a kill goes up a lot.

When the carry dies or runs away, use that time. Push a lane, take a camp, or set wards. The smoke gank guide has more on moving as a group to catch heroes.

Also think about your own lane. If you spend all your time on the carry, your own farm may fall behind. Balance the pressure with your other jobs.

When should you stop pressuring the carry?

If the carry gets too strong, chasing them alone becomes dangerous. A carry with key items may kill you before you can finish the play. Check how fast they are growing. If they can win a fight with you one on one, change your plan.

Also stop when their team protects them well. If supports stay close to the carry, you may walk into a trap. Pick another target instead.

The goal is to slow the carry, not to throw your life away. The counters page lists heroes who give Pudge the most trouble.

FAQ

Do I need to kill the carry to pressure them?

No. Making them farm less and in worse spots is often enough. Kills help, but steady threat also works.

How often should I go after the carry?

Often enough that they fear you, but not so much that you fall behind yourself. Watch your own farm and your team's needs.

What if the enemy carry is already very strong?

Stop hunting them alone. Work with your team and focus on catching other heroes or defending towers.
